Chairman’s Report for 2011-12 Annual Report
— By Keith Behrmann from Annual Report for July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012 —
Once again I will use a quote from Winston Churchill because it speaks to philanthropy in its truest form: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
Simple words but so powerful. Most all of us have had someone who has affected our lives in a positive way: parents, friends, teachers, coaches, pastors. The Foundations’ Heritage Club purpose is to provide a venue in which we can pay tribute to these people who have touched our lives and made a difference in our communities.
To ensure that the memory of these special people and their deeds will be marked for posterity, it is hoped that any donations in their name will be accompanied by a brief overview and perhaps some pictures of their life and times. These reflections will be kept at the local museum, thus providing a living history for those who follow. Once donations in a person’s name reach $1,000, his or her name will be added to the monument on the museum grounds.
All donations made to the Community Foundation of Swan Valley become part of the permanent endowment fund. The principal is never spent and the interest earned is used to support various charities, scholarships, and non-profit organizations within the valley area.
