A History of Youth in Philanthropy

In September 2006, under the direction of the Community Foundation of Swan Valley, a Youth in Philanthropy Committee was formed at the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School. The first year was an organizational year, as there was a need to prepare grant applications and gain an understanding of the grant-making process.

In May, the committee had an evening of celebration to award various non-profit organizations with their grants. The members of the group were: Nicole Cameron, Laura Alford, Michael Johnston, Tyler Burnside, Savannah Webb, and Sean Larson.

In 2006-07, the grants provided through Youth in Philanthropy were as follows:

The members of the Swan Valley Youth in Philanthropy Advisory Committee for the 2007-08 school year were: Laura Alford, Rebecca Dahl, Shalane Fichtner, Nikki Highmoor, Anna Klekta, Kirsten Larson, Holly Markin, Amanda Parsons, Sarah Soprovich, Alyssa Strate, Johan Vroomen, and Tiffany Webb.

In 2007-08, the grants provided through Youth in Philanthropy were as follows:

The members of the Swan Valley Youth in Philanthropy Advisory Committee for the 2008-09 school year were: Kayla Betcher, Candace Wenzel, Holly Markin, Kristy Hugill, Corinne Klekta, Teagan Markin, Amanda Parsons, Jillian Dormer, Brydget Lewicki, Kirsten Larson, and Dexter Bird.

In 2008-09, the grants provided through Youth in Philanthropy were as follows:
