What use is history?

“The community that neglects to know its own history is limited to the short present of our generation”. By telling us what our ancestors did, history inspires us to respect achievements, great in their day, and to strive to equal their resourcefulness and courage.
The Harley House is a municipal designated heritage home located at 512 2nd Street N Swan River. The historical value of the house lies within the traditional use of the building, it having been the first Land Agent’s home and office. Historically, it is also a prime example of the form and style of the Red River architecture.
A small but dedicated committee has been working very hard to restore this house, and this year’s project is to add the veranda, with its original and elegant grandeur (as shown in the picture).
The Harley House will be open three days a week for tours, visiting, heritage information, and walking tours of the town from June 20 to September 1.
The Community Foundation of Swan Valley is proud to have a part of this preservation project.
