Clean water is a gift

Swan Valley Regional Secondary School (SVRSS) students are learning about the importance of access to fresh water, something which is sadly lacking in many Third World countries, and even in Canada. Thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation, teacher Shannon Fullerton was able to help her Social Justice Committee host their first annual Youth Conference, bringing in a speaker who assisted students to set up future programs.
During a “Walk for Water”, the students carried water from the Swan River back to school to give them an idea of what it’s like to not have ready access to fresh water in a tap. In addition to the cost of a speaker, grant money was used to buy materials for the Social Justice program.
