Since 1998 the North Mountain Riders have encouraged family outdoor fun and tourism by maintaining a network of snowmobile trails and warm-up shacks in and around the Porcupine Forest Reserve. Recent LED technology has provided inexpensive but sufficient light that is within the capacity of solar battery chargers in the shacks.
With a grant from the Community Foundation, they have recently equipped two more of their shacks with lights, which are also used during the summer months by hikers, cyclists, ATVs and trail riders.
